Matthew graduated from Northumbria University in Newcastle in 2016
with a First Class Honours, Masters Level Degree in Law and the Bar
Professional Training Course. He was called to the Bar of England
and Wales the same year by the Honourable Society of the Inner
Temple.
In October 2017, Matthew commenced a training contract in Gibraltar
following a period of work at a specialist Personal Injury law firm
in the United Kingdom. In 2018, Matthew completed the Professional
Certificate of Competence in Gibraltar Law and the Professional
Skills Course at the University of Gibraltar and he was subsequently
called to the Bar of Gibraltar as a Barrister and Acting Solicitor
in January 2019. Thereafter, he began his career as an Associate
Lawyer specialising in litigation.
Matthew's practice has primarily been focused on civil litigation
where he has experience in a broad range of areas including
commercial debt recovery, property repossession proceedings and
representing individuals and companies in contractual disputes.
Matthew's practice has had a particular emphasis on representing
defendants and their insurers in relation to personal injury claims
where, over the years, he has gained a significant breadth of
experience acting in a wide range of matters including high value
multi-track cases involving complex catastrophic injuries.
Matthew also has experience acting in non-contentious matters
including the drafting and execution of Wills.
Matthew continues to build upon his previous experience focusing on
utilising his expertise to comprehensively represent parties in
clinical negligence and personal injury disputes, both of which are
areas of keen interest, in addition to his other areas of
competence.
